Felt technique

Felt is a non-woven textile that is produced by matting, condensing and pressing fibres together.
Felt can be made of natural fibres such as wool or synthetic fibres such as acrylic. There are many different types of felts for industrial, technical, designer and craft applications. While some types of felt are very soft, some are tough enough to form construction materials.
What I learn from this class I want to use in my design project.
In this project.  I focus on felt technique. And I wonder how to product this type of fabric.
I choose lamb wool to be my basic material for felting.
Temperature is an important point for felting.
I put my knitting sample in  washing machine
 for 60 degree,50 degree and 40 degree.
• nature material combine with non felt material.

                                                        before felt

Base on this class, I knew lots different fibre sources.
In this project, I want to use organic and sustainable fibre.
So I choose wool to be my main material.
Also, I think about making flet by knitting technique.
What interesting me is that different fibre has different tension.
And they will shows different reaction after fletting.
In this project, I attempt to use different fibre combine with wool. And see how the fabric comes out.
At the end, samples shows the effect. The shape will change when the fibre under high temperature.
It is really interesting reflection. I began to use this technique and keep develop it further.
