Innovation-Reflect writing

In the textile innovation lesson, I learn a lot about textile. It is a complete class of textile. It is intro ducted fibre source, different fabric and textile's functions. From this lesson, I gain great number of knowledge of textile. It improved my personal ability of knit.
First of all,This section was told about where is fibre comes from. It is important for me to know where is the fibre comes from and how does people make fibre out of natural plant. The point of natural sources, fibre come from plant. This is a traditional way to produce healthy and sustainable fabric for human daily needs. I was really interesting in various fibre.I was focus on natural, sustainable and recycled fibre sources in my design project this term. I knew more about fabric. For example, how they comes out and how they has been developed . Now I can recognize some kinds of fabric. As for me, this is a great development to my ability of knit .
Secondly, this lesson also introduce other kind of fiber which different with commercial fiber. There is lots different plants sources mentioned on the lecture. Leaf, hemp, peat and seed hair etc. These fibre source comes from human daily life and it also offer good quality production to people. As the other fibre source like metal and paper. They have special function for particular area. Those non-traditional fibre sources attracted me to know more about the other part of fibre around the world.after the class,I main to discover some natural and sustainable plant. And I want to know how those plant became a fibre source. I really want to try some thing new in knitting or discover a new idea for myself from the material source.
At the end,  I was really great to know that how the textile interact with people. It is really important for me to know that textile is a media, they have their properties to offer to human daily life. It was told about how the textile interact with people. There is lots high technical textile can communicate with people, offer power source, soft interfaces function and etc.It is a good way to know the interactivities at first. Then I should think about what is the function and how it can be a media communicate with people.
Furthermore. I use the knowledge from the class into my design project. I made flet fabric and I made a process to achieve zero waste. I really enjoy the lesson also I think it is really useful for every textile student to learn.

Lecture 3&4

Interactivity

In this section, it was told about how the textile interact with people. There is lots high technical textile can communicate with people, offer power source, soft interfaces function and etc. Textile is a media to translate material function to human needs. It is a communication between individuals and sources. It was produced to be functional and useful, also has it's own purpose. That is means when I product my fabric I should think about where I use it and what can it do. For example, fashion is the most popular and visual function as people can see. However, textile can be more particular like monitoring and healthy function interact with people in medical care. Furthermore, Textile are using in lots place where invisible. This function that I do not know before this section. In this section, It is analysis several interactivities of fibre and how they works in our world.

As this section, I was really great to know that how the textile interact with people. It is really important for me to know that textile is a media, they have their properties to offer to human daily life. After this section, I knew lots different way can textile be interact with people. I was not only think about just make a fabric. And how I develop it. It should be what I should think about from now. It is a good way to know the interactivities at first. Then I should think about what is the function and how it can be a media communicate with people.

Lecture 1

Fibre Sources

In this lecture, I was really interesting in various fibre. This section was told about where is fibre comes from. It is important for me to know where is the fibre comes from and how does people make fibre out of natural plant. I was focus on natural, sustainable and recycled fibre sources in my design project this term. However, my knowledge of fibre and fabric was poor before I took this class. I was glad that I choose this class. Because after this lecture, I knew more about fabric. For example, how they comes out and how they has been developed . Now I can recognize some kinds of fabric. As for me, this is a great development to my ability of knit .
The point of natural sources, fibre come from plant. This is a traditional way to produce healthy and sustainable fabric for human daily needs. For example, wool come from lamb or sheep that thermal quality and organic also recycled. Also, from this lecture, It introduced those commercial fibre all have useful and valuable function. Like the super wool which mix of merino wool and polyester can be use for sport wear. It can keep people body warm and dry. Furthermore, wool can be separate into fine wool and waste wool. Waste wool also can produced into yarn for other function. Wool is a really nice sustainable fibre yarn. In this section, I knew about how the fibre made out and what the function of different yarn.

Lecture 2

Non-traditional Fibre Source

In this section, It is another part of fibre sources. These fibre sources are unique in some countries or produced by particular places. What interested me is those fibre came out from various source like paper. Those kind of fiber has their unique function different with commercial fibre. However, these fibre can not be commercial. normally due to their particular function. Some of them are uncomfortable or unsuitable for body. However, this lecture made me focus on the unusual source which can produced fibre.

There is lots different plants sources mentioned on the lecture. Leaf, hemp, peat and seed hair etc. These fibre source comes from human daily life and it also offer good quality production to people. As the other fibre source like metal and paper. They have special function for particular area. Those non-traditional fibre sources attracted me to know more about the other part of fibre around the world.

What I really think about this lecture is how the unusual source became a way to produce fibre. And what is the technical that people produce fabric by using those non-traditional fibre. I main to discover some natural and sustainable plant. And I want to know how those plant became a fibre source. I really want to try some thing new in knitting or discover a new idea for myself from the material source.

Felt Function and Recycled

After the lection, I began to think about how can I design a process for my project. From the beginning to the end of the industrial process, It can be totally sustainable and recyclable. There are ways that how the textile interact with people and how the smart textile is being produce to help people. In the other way, how the waste textile can be reduce into other function or into other form that continue to offer function to human. And how can I do for my project to be zero waste and keep my responsible for environment. These questions are become my consideration in my project now.
In the end of this project. I was think about how can I recycled my samples, and the sustainable ways to use my recycled fabric. Also I want my project to be a real and completely organic, recycled and sustainable. At last, Zero waste will be achieved in this project. At the blow, There is many way that I found out. It will explain how I recycled my sample and reduce my waste yarn.

Material: organic wool and waste wool

wool is a sustainable and recyclable material.

The waste yarn can reduce to be waste wool and use in process again

.spin technique : use the waste yarn to produce a different and newest yarn.

.Pocket Technique: use industrial machine technique can put the waste yarn into knitting fabric and creative pop up texture.

PROKET TECHNIQUE (Ellen Chatelain)

Felt function

automotive industry :Felt is used on the underside of a car bra to protect the body.

musical instruments :The density and springiness of the felt is a major part of what creates a piano's tone

home construction:It is widely used to protect paintings executed on various surfaces including canvas, wood panel and copper plate.

People daily life: Protect body, keep warm. Hat, Coat, bag.

Recycled felt

.waste felt can also produce new felt after washing machine high temperature technique, after fabric highly flet and I can brush fur from the waste fabric. It can be reuse for other function.

.also waste felt can be reduce after break into pieces then iron them into a new fabric.

. Recycled felt can use in other shape to creative new function.

Felt technique

Felt is a non-woven textile that is produced by matting, condensing and pressing fibres together.
Felt can be made of natural fibres such as wool or synthetic fibres such as acrylic. There are many different types of felts for industrial, technical, designer and craft applications. While some types of felt are very soft, some are tough enough to form construction materials.
What I learn from this class I want to use in my design project.
In this project.  I focus on felt technique. And I wonder how to product this type of fabric.
I choose lamb wool to be my basic material for felting.
Temperature is an important point for felting.
I put my knitting sample in  washing machine
 for 60 degree,50 degree and 40 degree.
• nature material combine with non felt material.

                                                        before felt

Base on this class, I knew lots different fibre sources.
In this project, I want to use organic and sustainable fibre.
So I choose wool to be my main material.
Also, I think about making flet by knitting technique.
What interesting me is that different fibre has different tension.
And they will shows different reaction after fletting.
In this project, I attempt to use different fibre combine with wool. And see how the fabric comes out.
At the end, samples shows the effect. The shape will change when the fibre under high temperature.
It is really interesting reflection. I began to use this technique and keep develop it further.

Blythe House visit reflection

The Blythe house

The Blythe house is a small museum for V&A and British museum. It was build at 1900 as a bank. Then at 1970 V&A and British museum use it as a storage of collection. Today I was so pleasure got a chance to visit here and had a short time to enjoy in this amazing place. When I was have a chance to visit the small exhibition I was so exciting about it. There was a small exhibition display those old and previous textile books. These books were collect all the fabric and technique from 1970s. It was amazing presentation showed the history of textile change all the decades, how the price drop or rise and the changes of popular pattern, it was a show about the technology process development. Furthermore, it was a history of textile was disappear and it was an example about how the museum save a part of history.

The fabric in this collection was not exist on the world and out of our life now. That was what the collect lecture told about the one of functions of museum is save some history and protect the history of human life.
